About Lakenham

A historic home with a warm community

Family-owned residential care in a distinctive hilltop property overlooking Northam Burrows and Bideford Bay.

Welcome to Lakenham

Lakenham is housed in a building that once served as the residence of the Duchess of Manchester. Today, it offers residential and day care, together with long-term, respite and convalescent care, usually for older people.

The atmosphere is relaxed and homely. Staff work to promote a genuine sense of community while helping each resident feel safe, comfortable and respected.

“Our aim is to provide good-quality care that respects people as individuals, including their rights, choices and independence.”

Making a move easier

Choosing a care home can be a difficult and emotional decision. The team understands the uncertainty that residents and families may experience and is committed to making the transition easier. Questions are always welcome, whether from a prospective resident, family member, friend or representative.

Our Christian foundation

Lakenham has a sound Christian foundation, expressed through respect for human life, the dignity and worth of every individual and a true sense of care. Residents are free to take part in religious activities or not, according to their own beliefs and preferences.
